Along with the new trends this season, NYFW will also usher new standards and practices that will help to protect the rights of models in America and eventually all over the world- we hope! One major push toward this movement is the Model Alliance organization, a non-profit backed by supermodels, agencies and designers alike- aimed at giving models a safe and confidential way to report abuse and seek guidance. you can read more about Model Alliance at their website or read this article at fashionista. Things look good, considering that the CFDA is supporting this cause, and many designers and fashion houses have created new guidelines for healthy models.
A/W 2008 “The Girl Who Lived In The Tree”.
This is what I would call an iconic and memorable collection.
“I’ve got a 600-year-old elm tree in my garden and I made up this story of a girl who lives in it and comes out of the darkness to meet a prince and become a queen”- This was the inspiration behind the collection, in Lee’s own words.
The clothes were regal and extravagant, full of theatricality (naturally), with an obvious display of the Indian Empire coming through in this self-imagined fantasy.
Feathers, frills, lace, tulle, velvet, diamonds, silk. Lavish and indulgent.
A collection that is hard to forget…. encompassing the kind of creative artistry that McQueen was always so renowned for.
